Some of you may remember earlier this year when Jim entered one of the pictures he took on our cruise to the North Channel of Lake Huron last summer in Cruising World’s annual photo contest. The editors of the magazine picked their top 10 photos out of all of the entries and then the online voting began. We were so thrilled (and thankful to all of our friends and family who voted for Jim’s picture!) when we were notified that Jim took the winning photograph and would be receiving a Musto rain jacket valued at $250 as his prize. Cross that item off our list of items to think about buying when we visit the Annapolis sail boat show in October. 🙂
As if that wasn’t enough, imagine our surprise when Jim received an email from one of the magazine’s editors telling us that she’d like to use his photo as the lead in the Underway section of Cruising World in an upcoming issue! The only catch was that in order for them to use the picture, they would need a short article to go along with it. Oh yeah, and they’d pay us for it. So, they asked, would we mind doing that? Would we mind? Hell, no, we wouldn’t mind! Gotta keep the cruising kitty funded somehow!
They had Jim’s picture, I wrote an article, and they published them both in the September 2015 issue! Of course our issue arrived at our house a few days after we left, so we haven’t actually seen it in person yet, but we do have this picture to prove it. Nick, our younger son, will be visiting us when we arrive in New York City, so it’s on our list of things to have him bring from home! Can’t wait to actually see it ourselves!

August 31, 2015 at 8:05 amWe have an article we wrote about Put-in-Bay, but have not hear back from Crusing outpost about an interest in it. perhaps we should try cruising world? the problem is i ended up with a 2,500 wordcount and they want only 1000 words?..

September 1, 2015 at 8:52 pmCan’t hurt to try Cruising World! It’s hard to write a short article. For this one they wanted 300-400 words. I think my first try came in at over 500 and I whittled it down to 325ish and then just couldn’t find anything else I really wanted to cut out. Good luck!
